Philipp Poisel “Wo Fängt Dein Himmel An?”

Born in Ludwigsburg, Germany, he is signed to record label Grönland Records since 2008. The man behind the label is, unexpectedly, Herbert Grönemeyer, who didn’t overlook the talent of the young man or the quality of his songs.

One could compare the music to that of Grönemeyer, but Philipp Poisel makes his own way with the songs. The catchy tunes, always accompanied by an acoustic guitar, range through Pop, Rock, Romance, homesickness and wanderlust.

The melodies harmonise and the text is poetic, but Philipp Poisel is inherently concerned with the fundamental challenges of life faced by human beings. Listening to the album, it starts with the tranquil, light and sugar-sweet “Wo fängt Dein Himmel an” (“Where Does Your Horizon Begin?”). Melancholy music and lyrics about a long lost love. The remaining songs follow the same pattern. Nevertheless, every tone and every line of text seem 100% authentic, and each instrument is in its proper place. The lyrics are full of details and images, inspiring videos in the listener’s imagination. Poisel often uses somewhat childish language that makes the girls’ hearts flutter.

“Where Does Your Horizon Begin?” aims straight for the heart. Catchy melodies and the perfect combination of instruments take care of the rest. A pleasing and felicitous debut of an authentic, young, up-and-coming self-declared pop artist, who hasn’t sold his soul and become too commercial.
