So this is the album-shaped final exame of Mediengruppe Telekommander.
After 10 years as a duo, Florian Zwietnig and Gerald Mandl are throwing in the towel - they’d rather work at a chicken farm in Kashubia in the future.
Just as Telekommander combine rap with electronic beats and guitar chords, the two protagonists were a symbiosis of different origins. One of them is from Munich, but lives in Berlin these days and the other one is from Vienna. It is a perfect match that the new album is being released by Audioakt, a nucleus of the two indie labels Staatsakt (Berlin) and Audiolith (Hamburg).
After the previous LP was a bit more guitar-based, they got back to their roots again. Telekommander’s lyrics still sound like adwriters on a May Day demonstration.
Sideswipes and criticism of consumer culture with event character is going out to all forty-somethings pretending to be 18 (Auf der sicheren Seite / On the safe side), the charity-overkill (Die Elite der Nächstenliebe / The elite of altruism) and the general “tight is right”-mentality like “We want to buy everything” (Billig / Cheap). Also, some Nido-readers may feel adressed, “You make your child perfect now, because your child is not a child. Your child is a project” (Wer bist du / Who are you).
Conclusion: „If you don’t feel well, consult the help. Stay calm, don’t panic, the flickering is normal.” - “Everybody can join in and the basic charge is free” or in case of doubt “exchange it straightaway” ;-)
Media group Telekommander are going to celebrate their farewell live, too. In keeping with the lyrics “we´re going to stick with it as long as it keeps moving” (Draufhalten / Keep On).
