More and more British musicians speak out about the rioting in the UK
The rioting in the UK also caused an earthquake in the British music world. When peace finally returned to the streets of England, the wild discussions in the blogs of English musicians began. More and more stars from the British music scene take their stand on the riots in England, and naturally the opinions vary strongly. M.I.A. started the flurry amongst her Twitter-Followers when she joked that she would hand out “Tea and Mars bars” to the vandals. M.I.A. certainly didn’t expect her posting to cause such a flood of agitation. So many of her fans were so incensed that she quickly deleted the Tweet and hasn’t lost a word about the chaos since.
Noel Gallagher seems to be on the other side. Ex-Oasis Leader Gallager demands severe punishment for the hooligans in England. The first arrests were made as is commonly known, and this is Noel Gallagher’s opinion: “The prisons are already full? Then build new ones!”. Mad Professor rather reservedly expressed his own opinion. He openly believes that a person’s ethnic background is lost when they move to London. But in his Blog he commented on the riots: “As a musician, I expected the riots to start already months ago.”
Musician and DJ Calvin Harris twittered as follows: „A lot of these kids’ role models are in the music world, and many of these role models won’t comment on what happened. But they have to raise their voices and help stop it all.” Words of truth from Mr. Harris.
