On May 31st the six members of Iron Maiden entertained in Munich’s sold-out Olympic Hall.
Silence, but only for a short moment - the legendary metal band Iron Maiden around singer Bruce Dickinson isn’t really known for soft music. He took the stage and kicked off the concert throwing a “Devil’s Horn” hand salute (the sign created by raising your index and little finger). Even when the band members are all already over 50 years old, they’ve still got the volume and the rock poses to match.
On May 31st the British band Iron Maiden performed a sell-out show in Munich’s Olympic Hall
While many aging musicians and acts go for comeback-through-reincarnation, Iron Maiden has kept its integrity for over 35 years. British heavy metal, often combined with melodic elements.
The band members look like they always did - only their facial wrinkles deepened since their last performance in the Olympic Hall. Long hair, skin tight leather clothes and insane grimaces - a familiar picture. “Scream, fucking Muenchen,” calls Dickinson, the 52-year-old singer (who in the meantime is the only one with short hair) over and over. His voice hasn’t deteriorated at all - sometimes raw, sometimes clear - the tone is the same. He also still counteracts with the audience like no other.
The fans themselves also haven’t changed
After just a few minutes the first start taking off their t-shirts and the long hair sticks to sweaty skin while headbanging. The set list includes a few ballads but as the evening progresses more and more of Iron Maiden’s rock hits came up. And then, after one hour, it’s time: band mascot Eddie appears - the almost three meter tall monster character is on almost every album cover of Iron Maiden. Then the lights go back on and traditionally for Iron Maiden concert closes, “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life” from Monty Python plays over the loudspeakers.
