THE DEAD TREES - WHATWAVE

Sing-a-long, clap-a-long and “whoo-hoo” chorals that are irresistible even to the most hard-hearted. To record a relaxed album like “Whatwave”, the quartet had to spend several years travelling through the USA to get the attention of the country’s biggest indies. After they recorded an EP in their hometown Boston they headed for Portland, where they qualified to open Albert Hammond Jr.’s (Strokes guitarist) program, and who also recommended them to Adam Green and MGMT. In the meantime, The Dead Trees are centered in Los Angeles, where they worked on “Whatwave” with producer Noah Georgeson (Devendra Banhart, Little Joy). They’re naturally completely in line and stylish in the worn-out nostalgic trend of folk rock and freaky pop heros. But harmonists, jangling guitars and the positive vibes of the 70s haven’t been recorded so satisfyingly until now as on this album.
