Limp Bizkit are back after a break with the original lineup and a new album: Gold Cobra.
Limp Bizkit (Fred Durst, Wes Borland et al) have returned to the band’s entire original formation and released a new full-length album: Gold Cobra. In the beginning the most excitement was caused by the striking album cover, described (tongue-in-cheek?) by Limp Bizkit as “the most beautiful album cover in music history”.
One version for the cover
artwork was on the web months ago already. It had an (ugly) airbrushed cobra with speakers grown into its spread hood and a “femme fatale” reclining in its round coil. It prompted the first discussions about the unsightliness of the cover. So what did Limp Bizkit do? They made it even uglier. This version is the final result:
Now the giant cobra is in watercolors with not one but three bikini‑clad ladies sticking out their tongues, behind them a troll doing – who knows. And there’s a “Limp Bizkit” logo banner stretched over it all, in Bling-Bling Gangster Style.
It hasn’t changed. Either you love Limp Bizkit or you love to hate them. Wes and Fred agree. “I think that everyone who hated Limp Bizkit before will continue to hate Limp Bizkit. It’s not like we all of a sudden grew up and started making smarter music”, said Wes Borland. And Fred Durst concurs: “Whether you like it or not – it’s Limp Bizkit. We do it our way.” That’s exactly what they do on the new album.
On first listen it’s immediately apparent that the original band members created the new album, for the first time since “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water”, a decade ago. Especially Wes Borland’s influence can be “heard” – his guitar solos can’t be overheard.
Limp Bizkit is definitely back and in classic form. The sound is still late 90s, but not one track is a new version of an old hit. So, if you were an early fan of Limp Bizkit and favor Nu-Metal, then you will want to have this album, their sixth studio release.
