ANALOG IS BETTER

“This is our heaviest album yet” - claim The Foo Fighters, coming back to action again.

With their upcoming album “Wasting Light” they want to give the word garage rock a new meaning. Grohl & Co. recorded their seventh studio album in just under four years. “Nevermind” producer Butch Vig took an unconventional route with the band and dispensed with digital recording tools. Instead, the Foos recorded the entire album analog, in frontman Dave Grohl’s garage in hometown L.A. For the first time since 1997, guitarist Pat Smear is back on board. Performing on stage since 2006 with the Foo Fighters, he finally gets his chance to contribute to an album production. Another former Nirvana colleague of Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, is also present on one track.

Foo Fighters“Rope”, the first single release of the album with a video version as well, has found its way into the hearts of fans including our music editorial department. The album release is scheduled for April 8th in Germany, and coincides with the U.S. release of a feature film documentary of the band’s 16-year history. The film team winds up the documentary “Back and Forth” with scenes from the Foo Fighters garage production. Whether the documentary feature will ever appear in German theaters is still unknown, but we’re sure it’ll become available in DVD & Blu-Ray formats before long.

The Foos are on a European tour this summer and are making six stops in Germany:

17 - 06 - 11 Southside Festival
18 - 06 - 11 Berlin, Wuhlheide
19 - 06 - 11 Hurricane Festival
21 - 08 - 11 Highfield Festival
23 - 08 - 11 Köln. Laxness Arena
24 - 08 - 11 Chiemsee Rocks Festival

At an exclusive club concert in Cologne a few weeks ago, the band introduced the new album. The Foos are getting back to the roots with the 11 tracks on “Wasting Light”, as the songs are distinctly heavier than those we know from previous albums. Don’t even bother looking for an acoustic guitar.

Dave Grohl: “I’m 42 now. And to be honest: I love quieter music and could write wonderful dreamy ballads all day long. But that’s not a challenge. I don’t know if I’ll still be able to make a really heavy album in a few years. So I thought this might be my last chance. And I took it.”

After suffering low recognition in Germany for many years, the commercial breakthrough arrived in 2006 for the Foo Fighters. The Foos pleased a wider audience with their low-key tunes on “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” and the acoustic sets during the last world tour in 2007. At least since the single “Wheels”, included on the 2009 Greatest Hits album, the Foos are here to stay.

As it should be, we think. Yet we’re delighted with the heaviness of the new album – exactly those rock songs that have been thrilling us for years being an integral part of the DELUXE ROCK playlists. Tune in Mondays and Fridays as of 11 p.m. to get the best videos from the Foo Fighters.
