Controversy over the Michael Jackson statue in front of the Fulham FC Stadium in London.
Just a few days ago soccer team chairman Mohamed Al Fayed unveiled the Michael Jackson statue erected in front of the Fulham FC Stadium in London. He was a close friend of the King of Pop who died two years ago, and intended to honor him with the commissioned work. Michael Jackson himself was Guest of Honor in 1999 for a game between London’s Fulham FC and Wigan Athletic – Fulham FC won 2-0.
Reason enough to carve the Moonwalker into stone? Fans would answer this question with an irritated “are you kidding me?” They’re anything but happy about the “gift” from Al Fayed and even held a protest demonstration on the day of its unveiling. A Fan– whether representative or not – cites “we’re a laughing stock. It has nothing to do with football.”
Now the football experts in the music business have started commenting on the Jackson monument in England’s capital city. Beady Eye man Liam Gallagher says that the rubble is “ridiculous”. He was asked by the British press to predict scores for the Premier League, and for his opinion on the statue. “It’s a bit silly, isn’t it?” commented the ex-Oasis singer. “It could be worse, for example it could be a statue of Justin Bieber – but then there wouldn’t be such a protest, right?” he added.
Al Fayed defends his expensive investment: “If some stupid fans don’t understand and appreciate such a gift this guy gave to the world they can go to hell. I don’t want them to be fans.”
