You’ve seen it on DELUXE MUSIC: the music video to „Simply Irresistible“ from and with Robert Palmer.
Like no other Clip, it stands for the Rock sound of the late 80s and the golden era of music television.
Palmer’s British fellow countryman Terence Donovan directed. The fashion photographer, who significantly influenced Swinging London in the 60s, was still generating innovative photography in the 80s in which the industrial landscape stage of his hometown Stepney was often featured. In addition to photography, Donovan also filmed about 3,000 commercial advertisements, a feature film and music videos – amongst which another Robert Palmer megahit “Addicted to Love” ranges together with “Simply Irresistible”.
“Simply Irresistible” shares the aesthetic appeal of the American artist Patrick Nagel (†1984). He accentuates feminine beauty in a minimalistic style inspired by Art Deco. Ther are many instructional pages on the internet now describing how to copy the distinctive style of the video. But it wasn’t only the video that shot the song to the upper realms of the Charts worldwide and earned Robert Palmer his second Grammy.
Join DELUXE MUSIC for a little trip back to the 80s with “Simply Irresistible” .
