AGUILERA VERSUS GAGA

The debate about Christina Aguilera and her newest album is never-ending.

The singer worked with the Electropop-band Ladytron from Liverpool to record “Bionic”. An interview with the four members of Ladytron revealed that the final cut of the album is dramatically different than the original recordings done with Christina. The band considers the singer’s record label mainly responsible for the fundamental musical switch and believes the singer’s label wanted to market her against Lady Gaga.

Christina AguileraDaniel Hunt of Ladytron comments on the joint effort with Aguilera: “The way she played the album to me was her original vision. She was on the right track but the record label f***ed up everything to be honest. All the good stuff got pumped into disc two. I think that if she would have done what she had in mind it would have been better.”

“I also think that with what she had in mind she could have sidestepped all the kind of potential comparison with Lady Gaga which, you know, at the time it was that nightmare for her. She would have done it in the smart way and she would have been renowned now, but her record label instead wanted to put her against Gaga.”

Since Ladytron is one of Christina Aguilera’s favorite bands, she invited Daniel and his band colleagues to Los Angeles in 2008 to work with her on “Bionic”. They recorded five demo songs together and until today the band still raves about the four-time Grammy winner’s musical talent.

Released in 2010, the album “Bionic” reached #2 on the album charts in Germany. The sales figures fell far below expectations, however. As a result, the Christina Aguielera world tour planned for 2010 was postponed indefinitely.

We hope to welcome the outstanding singer still this year in Germany. Until then DELUXE added three Christina classics to our playlist – “I Turn To You”, “What a Girl Wants” and “The Voice Within”. Check it out on DELUXE GOLD or PURE 90s, on DELUXE MUSIC.
