SUNRISE AVENUE BRINGS “HOLLYWOOD HILLS” TO GERMANY

We had the pleasure of personally attending the concert at the Essigfabrik in Cologne presenting their third studio album “Out of Style”.

The performance of the Helsinki-Five surrounding mastermind Samu Haber in one of the prettiest towns on the Rhine river included songs from 2006 like “Fairytale Gone Bad” as well as songs from their newest album (released 3/25/11), including the hit single “Hollywood Hills”.

sunrise avenueSunrise Avenue doesn’t fit to the clichés about Finland. The handsome blonde Samu Haber is smiling on almost every band photo, he’s always in a good mood for interviews, and he paraded it on stage in Cologne.

The music on the new album is well-made, arranged with care and presents a number of catchy, memorable songs. And of course, “Out of Style” is the typical collection of ballads and uptempo-pieces, something that a producer doesn’t let himself be talked out of. The ballads were moved to the background of this Sunrise Avenue concert – it was loud rock, and it drove the fans into a hot situation. After a few of them fainted, the concert promoter started passing bottles of water into the frenzied mass.

“Out of Style” is once again proof of the fantastic songwriter’s high quality. The first single release from the album “Hollywood Hills” is a first-rate, authentic track with a catchy tune – especially when heard live. This time two producers were found for the new album. According to the motto “never change a winning team” the “home” producer Jukka Backlund was still on board.

The proof that a practiced team doesn’t always have to sound the same are the songs themselves: tracks like “Kiss Goodbye” has fine musical details to offer. The “Right One” steers the typical pathos of Sunrise Avenue into the right lane. And although “Out of Tune” should come across obsessively modern it turns rough.

A wonderful concert in a not so wonderful location, but with the best Finnish band in the world. This summer we’ll see Sunrise Avenue open air in Germany and in November this year, in the venue Backstage in Munich. Stop by and pack an extra shirt to change into, it’ll be hot!
