BALLET SCORE FROM THE PET SHOP BOYS

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, alias the Pet Shop Boys gave us the most danceable club sounds on this planet during their 25-year band history.

Their new double album “The Most Incredible Thing” being released March 11th in Germany will get people dancing again, but this time mainly ballet dancers.

Pet Shop BoysThe duo wrote “The Most Incredible Thing” in collaboration with the prize-winning dancer and choreographer Javier De Frutos and London’s leading modern dance theater, Sadler’s Wells. The production is based on a story from Hans Christian Andersen, Denmark’s most notable poet and author. According to press releases for the album, the dance-drama tells the tale of a King who will give half his Kingdom and the hand of his daughter in marriage to the man who can produce “the most incredible thing”. What follows is creative, destructive and finally triumphant.

Lowe himself came up with the idea of basing a dance piece on an Andersen story. Ivan Putrov, both a friend of Lowe and principal dancer of the Royal Ballet, approached him in 2008 to commission a ballet score. Lowe suggested the story from Andersen and the duo composed the first Act in Fall 2008. The album in three acts was completed 2010. Tennant and Lowe to the new album: "This is a very exciting project to be part of. In the past we have written dance music so to write music for a ballet seems like a logical development. Also we have always been fascinated by giving our music a theatrical context."

The Ballet world premiere is from March 17 to March 26 in Sadler’s Wells Theater, London.

The Pet Shop Boys recorded the soundtrack together with the Wroclaw Score Orchestra. The musicians selected for the ensemble are prizewinners of international music competitions and soloists in their own rights. Their orchestral experience results from years in the Polish Chamber Ensemble, and international recognition gained with the Yehudi Menuhin Festival Orchestra.
